201 Stratos/200 Evinrude wiring

Do any of you have a wiring diagram for a 1989 201 Stratos with a 1988 200 Evinrude. I am having an intermittent starter problem. The solenoid does not energize about half the time. There is 12 v on the large diameter wire coming from the battery but I don't have anything on the smaller two wires. The starter engages if I jump from the 12v starter lead to the smaller (yellow/red) wire on the solenoid. Please e-mail me the schematic to ehardesty at hovairauto.com
Or let me know what to check next. I'm not the greatest with wiring. I attempted to trace the yellow/red wire back to the keyswitch but can't find it there.

Change the solenoid. You will have 12 VDC on the starter.

The solenoid that is on it hasn't been on the boat more than a month. At most 4 times out. I used an OMC soleniod from a dealer. Even if the soleniod is bad, shouldn't I have 12 volts on the yellow/red wire that connects to it? Shouldn't that energize the coil in the solenoid and kick it in?

Could be your neytral start switch in your control box. If its bad, solenoid will not engauge.

To test that, can I just jumper around those two wires? That should close the circuit.

This might sound stupid, but how do you get to those wires? I can't get the control box out of the side of the boat. I haven't tried reaching under yet but it looks like a long reach.
Correct me if I'm wrong, but when you turn the key to the start position you take 12v thru the keyswitch and it feeds the yellow/red wire. Then to test the solenoid I should be able to just take power from the battery straight to the terminal where that hooks up. Correct?

Yellow/red is for the neutral lock out switch.

I ran a wire from the keyswitch directly to the solenoid last night and the engine cranked every time. So either the wire is cut or the neutral switch is bad. How do you get to the neutral switch? Or is there a fuse in that line somewhere? I tried to pull the shifter out and couldn't get it to where I could see the wires. Do I need to take the handle off of the shifter? What is the trick?
