2002 225 OX66 issue

Hey guys have a question for you about my motor. I changed the plugs on the boat when I purchased it used last year and never have had any issues with the motor what so ever. So the other day I decided to change the plugs since it had been a year or so and the motor seemed to be running maybe a little rough or at least in my mind it was. So I took the boat out after this change and it started loosing power about 5000 rpm or 58mph The motor just sputters and or cuts out and feels like to me maybe the cylinder is not firing properly. So I brought the boat back home checked the plug wires and the gap once again. Took it out today and still the same exact thing. The plugs I put in the motor had been setting in my boat in the box brand new for a year so I am wondering if maybe some moisture had affected the plugs in some and I am going to purchase 6 more tomorrow take the boat out and see if that helps. If it is not the plugs what else could it be. Why would the boat run well before I changed the plugs and now has this drop in power?

I know that most would say it is obvious, but the core of the wire may have broken. Otherwise I would check the electrical connections to each ignition solenoid.

I checked the plug wires they seem fine so I guess I am going to take it in and see how much this is going to cost

This could be a number of things. Just fixed my 2000 255 ox66 that was doing the same. Ended up being a bad coil which you can test with a DVM per the service manual. Also, could be the low pressure fuel pumps, VST screen needed cleaning, O2 sensor needs TESTING (plenty of articles on testing online) and cleaning or replacing, fuel filters.

It's amazing what you can do with a service manual.

Also, check the spark plug cap resistances per the service manual. If it turns out to be a bad ignition coil like mine, a guy on ebay is parting out a 2001 250 and has two left real cheap.

    Good Luck
