You can see the bolt threads on the bolt right under the prop. No water in the housing. Will a low water lower unit fit on my '02 Vmax O66?

how about a picture of the damage? what did you hit?
Yes it will fit if you have a 3.1L , But you will need the 4 SS metric studs to mount it. Hydrotec sells the kit.Be aware that there are different gear ratios depending on what motor you have.

I'll get pics today. Don't know what I hit. What ever it was was in the middle of the mouth of a creek on the main lake.
Thanks for the pics of the lower unit. That is the same motor I have.
Check with Marcus at Las Vegas Marine, he has some used lower units he is selling for a fraction of the new price.
John.

I would not trust a welded on skeg on a 250 at the speeds these motors produce. See if your insurance company will accept any and all liability of future accidents if related to the skeg comming off at speed.

I have progressive and they wanted my boat to be off the water for 2 weeks so the shop could take my old LU part and tell them it was from hitting something or wear and tear even with a big peice missing from the cav plate. I got it welded and told progressive to stick it...
Now they want the shop to take apart the old lower unit and use the gears from the old unit and place them in a newer lower unit without the gears. They want to pay for 4 hours of labor for that. Now he wants the shop to take apart the lower unit because the shop found where I diffently hit an object to show the little pip squeek. The adjuster wants to look at all the gears and measure the shaft? This adjuster is reading from a script and the shop hates to tell him this is not a Merc. it's a Yamaha.
Again I say; call Marcus at Las Vegas Marine. He can hook you up with a used lower unit with very few hours for $850.00 plus shipping (about $100)!!!
