    Motor swap

I had my evinrude stolen off my boat and the best deal I can find for a replacement is a yammy. Question is I know I have to swap controllers but do I have to swap all the gages also? Its on a 94 ragin cajun.
    Thanks

The gauges should be able to wire in by splicing.... I have never done it though. Depending on what motor you found, You might need a oil tank/pump. Different throttle/shift controlls, and wiring harness for the motor.

    Re: Motor swap (21XDC)

Thanks for the quick answer, after my insurance paid me off I was able to find the same boat as I already had except this one came with a yammy on it. I have access to everything but the gages on my original boat are all seperate and the boat I bought for the motor has 2 digital ones that do everything but that would leave alot of holes in my dash

You can add water pressure, water temp, compass, etc to fill them in cheap. You should have the first two anyway and the digitals don't have those.

    Re: Motor swap (21XDC)

Ok, didi the swap and after a few trips I will never own anything but a yamaha!!! The swap is very easy and only took a few hours, for the most part the boat was wired and then the motor was wired so I did nothing with the boat wiring and just pulled the motor and the wires that came with it. One had a plug on it and hooked into the ignition and the other goes to the gauges-very simple. It was probably easy cause I got lucky and found another cajun to get the motor off of. I only have one question and that is with my old rude it was easy to start, turn the key and push to choke till it hit and then no more choke till it tried to die etc. I have had this out 4 times and it seems I am flooding the yammy everytime and after 20 minutes it fires up and runs like a top all day. Is there a secret to starting these?

    Thanks

    Re: Motor swap (CAJUN MVP)

Had a carb 200 provee, PITA to start the first time every day. Wired in a choke switch, and learned to turn the engine over 5 or 6 times, then hit the choke. Use the switch as a momentary on-off to keep running for 30 sec or so. Good to go after that. Also, on the front right side of the lower pan, there is a manual choke. If you don't have an electric choke switch, pull it halfway, start the engine, let run until it dies out, push the choke back in, should be good to go. One thing I also learned, the starting battery needs to be sized right and hot enough to send spark while under cranking load.

    Re: Motor swap (CAJUN MVP)

Had an older 115. It was dif to start first time in the am. Here is what worked best for me.

Of course pump up the primer bulb.
Using the choke on the motor, not the other one, pull it out.
crank the motor using no throttle, just the choke, till it fires at all. Once it fires at all then push the choke back in and crank it feathering the throttle.

Anyway try it, it may work for you as it did for me.
