having a problem with my 1999 225 yamaha vmax 0x66

I am having a problem with my yamaha, When i start my boat cold it runs great, that is until i get to my upper rpms, once i get around 5400 rpms my boat will start to cut out and i will loose all my rpms. once the boat is near a stop and pull back on the throttle it will pick itself back up. also once i have ran my boat and stopped to fish i have one hell of a time getting it restarted. I have taken it to several mechanics and no one has fixed it yet. can you please help

Replace the primer bulb, and fuel pump diaphrams... I bet it goes away. I'm assuming that you decarb the motor reglarly and run a carbon preventer in all of your gas so the O2 sensor stays clean..

I have the same motor and replaced the fuel pumps which was the problem. The mechanic also told me that to when you replace a primer bulb to make sure the arrow that points towards the flow of fuel it pointing up or level. If it points down it will sometimes cause the motor to starve sor fuel especially at high rpms.there is a baffle of some sort in it that will shut and not let enough thru it. 21XDC has helped me on mine also he is right about the fuel pumps.Easy to do for 120.00 yourself.

I'm sure that you have checked the fuel/water separator, but I had the same problem with my 1999 200 ox66 v-max and found water in the separator bowl.

Please let us know what you find to be the problem.

When you have a difficult time starting it after your first stop, do you detect a strong gas odor?IF so it's your fuel diaphrams, you probably have the "white ones" the new better improved version are black. FYI

sick, he talking about SeaFoam or Ring Free. Yamaha recommends running Ring Free(their brand) to keep the injectors clean from carbon build-up. Get a bottle of Ring Free if you don't already use and follow directions 1oz/10gallons of gas. If you haven't been using, follow the directions for shock treatment. I dont remember the mixture for shock treatments.
BTW, the OX66 motors are really stong motors.

i do get a pretty strong smell of fuel when trying to restart my motor. thanks for all the help guys, now lets hope the mechanics are reading this so they wont keep waisting my money and time. How often do you need to replace the diaphrams, its been about a year and half since i had the lifters replaced and im no motor junky but arent the diaphrams located in the lifters.

what i am calling the lifters is, let me see. they are the three silver looking pumps on the side of the motor. i believe the are connected to the vst tank as well. like i said im not very smart about motors.
