    1999 225 vmax?

    Can someone give me some insite on a 1999 225 vmax. Are they a good motor? any problems to look out for?

    The motors are very reliable....possibly one of the best. I have one and they do consume fuel if you run them above 4500 rpms. Good on oil, although they are known for smoking alot on start up. My perspective is that even though they may use fuel at wide open throttle, they are very reliable and if something needs fixed, you can do most everything yourself which can save lots of money for fuel.

    As for problems,they can need fuel pump diaphram replacements (1 hour & 50 bucks) And cooling system poppit valve cleaning...see listings at the top of the yamaha posts.

    Have a good mechanic check it out first.

    I have the same motor and year, replaced fuel pumps,o2 sensor twice other than regular maintenance. It still starts and runs great. Changing fuel pumps is easy and o2 sensor also.
