Need advice fixing a loose whachamajigger...

The horizontal bar/rod with bushings that the motor pivots on using the trim that you are supposed to grease. It has gone bye bye... I have not greased it and I have a ton of play. I can grab my skeg and lift it alot up and down and you can see the slop big time...

    1) How do I go about fixing this?

    2) How much is it gonna cost me?

    3) Can I do it, or is it something I need to take in for repair?

    4) Will boats.net have what I need, What do I ask for?

    5) I have very little money, So give me the most affordable fix other than bubble gum, zip ties, or duct tape..

Go to http://www.boatpart.net/ chose your motor and it will give you a exploded view of any section of your motor. You can order the parts from them.. It should be on this page http://www.boatpart.net/yamaha...51497

Thats great.... But anybody know all the parts that wear and or need replaced? Looking for someone that has done this or similar to get some advice... Looks like I need a cherry picker or chain fall.

Amsoil makes very good products, but the grease I have in mind has very high lubricity properties and is almost impervious to water.

Re: Need advice fixing a loose whachamajigger... (NoodleRodDude)

Mike, If the play is coming from the top of the center piston, then the bushing are worn out that the pin goes through that holds the piston to the motor mount. I have never replaced them, but I know they can be replaced. And according to Yamaha there is some play alowed. You will get a lot more movement when your motor is tilted all the way up as opposed to the down position where it will rest on the 2 pushrods. Hope this helps

Try tightening the nut on the pivot shaft on drivers side. It takes a 1 1/4" open end wrench. That took the slack out of mine.

Thanks, But are these the only parts that could wear out?

Trust me, Its not gonna tighten up with a wrench.... It's sloppy as all get out. Feels like the motor is about to fall off.

I have the PDF file service manual for my motor.... But I'm not sure what all parts that wear or need replaced... I'm waiting on a return call from boats.net.... I hope to get fixed up with parts soon.

These part numbers are for trim units... Not the parts I need at all....

I talked to boats.net and the parts I need are 90386-25M31-00 and I need two of them. They are a whopping 5-6 bucks a piece.

I'm gonna try and order them tonight....
