I printed that off so I could read it better. If you look at the bottom of the graphs, it says Bass and Walley Boats. That information is coming from the B&WB magazines test they did for the June 2005 issue. They tested the three motors on a 20XD Bullet.

Yea, in hopes of Merc signing a multi year advertising contract?

If there is one thing in this life I find distasteful, it's deceptive advertising.

Read 'Rude Awakening #1 : Merc Produces fewer emissions. Yeah, to bad you are a bunch of deceptive, low life scum bags. The cute little chart they use to flat out deceive is CARBON MONOXIDE EMISSIONS. Some will call it creative, some will call it whatever they want, but right below their big bold headline is the statement "Note: The EPA measures hydrocarbons and NOX, not carbon monoxide."

Hmmm, Merc beats the 'Rude in a category that isn't even measured. Nice... makes me want to own one. Lying #$%^*()($#@'s!!!!!!

If they are SOOOOOO great emissions wise, then why is half the line only rated 2 star. Yep, Merc is in for a bunch of fines or at least points charges when the next round of regs kicks in.

It just goes on and on......

Sorry, but I've about had it with the BS going on. Between 2 more weeks and flat out lying, I don't know where to go for power.

Unlike Evinrude, which offers a third party, aftermarket warranty package, every Mercury comes with a three year, factory backed, nondeclining warranty. That means no outside parties or claims to deal with - just total piece of mind. </TD></TR></TABLE>
Where is the truth in this statement?...Total B.S.

I've heard so much deception this, deception that against Evinrude E-TEC...more B.S.

I've seen numerous tests running one against the other and have seen different summaries. Evinrude does need to produce a quicker/faster lower unit like the Optimax was able to get from Merc Racing.

What happened to the Verado? Seems Evinrude forced Mercury to switch gears and rework the Opti.

nice of merc to say that 2 strokes are better that 4. just what Evinrude has been saying all along.
seems to that merc is pretty wishy washy. what are they really trying to promote in their lineup?

I agree, don't get fired up over this advertisement.

All the big name brands have something to offer the consumer....here in this forum, we feel the Evinrude E-Tec is the Best choice.

Guys, I read this ad and smell fear emanating from Merc. Maybe the E-tec is gaining marketshare and Merc is trying to stop the bloodletting?

The tests were done buy a publishing company who wants merc to spend big dollars paying for glossy advertising. The tests can come out any way you want them to.

Why didn't they use ALL the tests that Bass & Walleye Boats Magazine did then? Merc has repeatedly printed in their brochures how the 90 Opti is so much better than the 90 E-TEC. Why didn't they go by this test?... http://www.bassandwalleyeboats...43183

Re: Where are the Mercury guys getting this information? (e-tec_angler)

In all fairness but I have NOT yet seen any test where the ETec is significantly better in fuel use as the other motors ... at best they seem to be on par or worse.

I have been wondering about getting an ETec but will probably let this mature a little ...

Re: Where are the Mercury guys getting this information? (e-tec_angler)

Actually e-tec_angler, of anything the ad said this is actually the most correct. I've not had anyone explain the coverage of this "aftermarket" plan... and they sure as all get out WILL NOT say it's non-declining... and how is this "aftermarket" company going to make the money back they spent to buy this warranty plan??? Something smells like the critters we chase --- FISHY!

Re: Where are the Mercury guys getting this information? (Herk FE)

Here is the coverage of the FPC Warranty. Rember the big word is it is a factory back plan. That means alot. If a dealer has a problem with FPC they can call BRP and get the issue fixed fast. There is no need for the costomer to get invloved in any way.

How the plan works is from year 4 thru thru 7 there is a 25.00 dect. that is paid if there is a problem. It covers from the flywheel nut to the prop shaft nut. Unlimited hours. No aftermarket or rebuilt parts can be used in the repair just new BRP parts.

Re: Where are the Mercury guys getting this information? (johnrude)

Thanks. I've been in there, but never noticed that.

I read down through it, no where does it even mention using OEM parts... so you might want to query the only original parts. I know how these folks operate (read: ANY big business) and if it don't say it, it don't exist.

There is also some wording I'm not real keen on.... but that's my personal beef with them.

I still ask how it can be a factory deal if they sold it to an outside company. Doesn't make sense. And that $25 per visit... there is NO WAY they can make back the amount they spent on this whole plan $25 at a time... something don't wash.

Re: Where are the Mercury guys getting this information? (Herk FE)

If you notice at the top it states a example of a outboard plan. You can go to any BRP dealer and look at the form. In the BRP FPC Factory backed plan new OEM parts can only be used. Dealers have a 1800 number to call to BRP when inside this warranty period. This not up to FPC to make the call. FPC just does not give BRP a warranty plan for there outboards. BRP must pay for the plan. So yes they are making money.

Re: Where are the Mercury guys getting this information? (Herk FE)

The B.S. about Mercury going on about the warranty is that they state they(Merc) has a 3 year non-declining warranty...so does Evinrude. The 4 years after the first 3 are covered by FPC.

What happened to the Verado in all of this angst within Mercury?

Actually if the ETec performs as BRP expects it to there won't be any need for warranty work in year 4-7. The only work would be insurance claims...
