This motor is on my pontoon, but I know there's some Yami-heads out there that can probably help.
This motor has been a nightmare. It's a 98 4 stroke high thrust. The guy before me didn't take care of it that well (as I found out throughout last year). It's my fault for not checking into it more, but now it's mine and I have to deal with it. I will say in my defense (while a poor excuse) he showed me a bunch of receipts of work that was done. Unfortunately I think the marina was hosing him all along as you'll see.
Problem #1 It idles pretty rough. It would sometimes die on me when in gear. I played around with the idle and got it to stay alive at low rpms. One potential cause (this really kills me for how stupid I was while checking this boat out), it didn't have ANY fluid in the LU. No water either. I've heard that 4-strokes need to have the valves maintained but this being my 1st 4 stroke I don't know much about it.
Problem #2 See above with the lack of lube in the LU. I figure what damage that was done is done. I rarely cranked it above 1000 rpms so that probably is in my favor. Is there a real danger of a blow-out at this point?
I bought the manual and have already replaced the spark plugs and the impeller. I just want to get a list together before I pull it out of storage this weekend.
Thanks in advance for any help anyone can provide.
