Lift and trim question on 05 HPDI 200hp

    Hey everyone,

Was hoping someone could help me. My lift and trim kit is making a little bit of noise when I have the motor all the way down and first start lifting it up. Doesn't do it when you are lowering the motor. All appears to be working fine, just the noise is a little disconcerting - like there is air in the hydraullics. I've undone the plug back there and made sure it's full of fluid (runs out everytime I open the plug - and even added some to it just to make sure it is topped off). Just was wondering if anyone had one that ever did this and if there's an easy fix that maybe I'm missing (ie easy way to bleed the lines)?? I hate to have to run it back to the dealer (over an hour away) for something that may be an easy fix and considering I just had the 100hr service done last month.

    Thanks,

    rangerroy

Tyy putting some grease on the ends of the trim rods. They can get dry and make a heck of a noise.

Yea, they've got some, but guess I could add a little more to them. If anyone has any more ideas, I'm all ears on it.

    Thanks again,

I have to grease the tubes every 4-5 trips out.

Ok, I appreciate it. I'll give it a good greasing before I go out this weekend.

    Thanks again!!!

I believe your estimation is correct. It sounds like you have a tiny bit of air in there. Mine makes that high pitched squeal at times. In fact, every outboard I've had did it once in a while. I never paid it much attention.

What others are describing is when you trim down and get that popping/rubbing noise. This noise can be fixed by placing a small dab of marine grease to the ends of the trim rams.

Thanks...yep, you are right. It was definitely air in the lines. I propped the motor up and actuated the lift/trim and bled it out and the noise went away. Thanks to all!!
