    Cracked Piston Head

Ok.. I pulled the heads of and discovered a crack in the top of my #1 piston. How much work is involved in replacing this? Is it worth replacing all of them?

    Re: Cracked Piston Head (madman)

All the other cylinders checked at 140-145 compression. I opened it up because #1 cylinder checked at 120. There is a crack a liitle more than half the distance across the top of the piston. It did not come apart. The cylinder walls all look and feel very good. I went to your link to check the color and it looks like everything is good.

you may luck out, when you call the dealer make sure you ask them if they do in house rebuilds. some yamaha dealers will just tell you the only way to do it properly and/or the only way they do it, is to take the whole powerhead off, send it to hydrotech and get a new hydrotech head. this is the best way but it is expensive!!!
