    power head replacment question

I lost compression on onecylinder of my 1974 85 HP evinrude and was thinking about rebiulding the motor but I have seen several rebiult V-4 powerheads for sale at affordable prices. I was wondering what year powerheads will bolt on to my current motor? Will bolting on a 115 HP or a 90 Hp powerhead be a problem? Thanks.

Re: power head replacment question (Sacto John)

The problem with a powerhead upgrade is the shift linkage.... you can use a power head from motors up to 1977...after that the shift linkage and gearcase shifter changed.

If you like the motor, rebuild what you have.
