I recently found out that i was getting Quicksilver instead of Yamalube from my dealer. Been running that in my 150 since i bought it last year. Never had any problems.

I run Yamalube but in Alaska last week I noticed the guides were using Pennzoil in all of their Yamahas. They told me that the 1991 Yammy 150 had always used Pennzoil and never had a problem under very heavy usage. Makes me wonder about all the hype.
Take Hardcore's advice,I buy bulk at a Yamaha motorcycle shop.Just ask for 2M.I'm paying 14.00 a gallon.
Been using Quicksilver premium plus for the last 3 years on my 2000 150 Vmax....never had a problem with it.

I've been using Pennzoil synthetic blend in my 2000 Yamaha 150 VMAX for years with no problem at all.
Maybe try AMSOIL - you can have it shipped to your door for about $16 -18 per gallon.
