Bearing carrier question fer Rusty or whom ever

Okay, I have bought me a used bearing carrier for my 99 200 Johnson. The old one would not stop leaking around the outside of the seal. On the used one the end of the carrier where the thrust washer sits in between the gears and the carrier is pretty gashed up from some gear damage while in the old motor it was in. My question is, is this gonna cause any problems in my motor? The tech I bought it from says it shouldn'nt hurt nothing. Just looking for some reinsurance. Thanks-

Well I probally should have, but I already reinstalled the carrier. I took some sand paper and a dremel to it and cleaned it up pretty good without taking to much off of the surface cause I did not want to change the overall length of the carrier. From what I have been told the thrust washer shouldnt move to much against the damaged area. I dunno though. I know I am a worry wart when it comes to things like this, but it is just getting a bit old. Rusty should I have not sanded the end of the carrier like I did? It just looked so rough.

Well, no I did not take any before I put it back in the L U. I made sure that I kept it all flat and true. Basically all I did was dress it up a bit it still has some marks on it but at least it is smoother than before. I sure hope it wont cause problems with my gears or that washer.
