    Hard to Start

I have a Oxy 66 225 that has always fired the minute you touched it. The last couple of trips she would start fine when I first get to lake (engine cold) but would be a little stubborn occasionally during the day. Not bad, but still completely out of character. So I changed spark plugs. Took her to the lake today and she fired when I first got there (engine cold) as soon as I touched the key! I let her run for about 30 seconds before pulling off of the trailer. She died when I put her in gear....then acted stubborn. Every time the rest of the day she was hard to start when I went to run to yet another spot with NO FISH ON IT!! In fact a couple of times she was REAL tough to start. Anyone have any ideas?

    Thanks!

John are you using a Racor filter in your fuel line?
If not it might be the underhood fuel filters, or even the O2 sensor that needs cleaning. I'm leaning toward the O2 sensor.

Mike I put in a new filter this spring so the O2 sensor could be it. Now this is where I really show how stupid I am. I don't know what it is (although I have heard of it) and I don't know where it is (I can find it on Yamaha's website) but is it something I can replace myself? Thanks again for your help!

I would bet that you have one of your fuel pumps diapham (sp) is leaking into a cylinder. I leaks fuel into the cylinder flooding it out. When you first start in the morning there is no fuel leaking into the cylinder. I had the same problem
was the top pump, replaced the diapham and no more problems....Check it out..good luck..

    Re: Hard to Start (AwesomeBullet)

Thanks for all the help guys! The O2 sensor is WAY over my head! Of course that doesn't take much as I am NOT the mechanical type! The diaphragm deal does make sense, but I guess I will take it to a dealer and let them check it out. Hopefully it is something simple.

    Thanks again!

Re: Hard to Start (Passion 4 Bassin)

Had the same problem with my 200 VMAX (Year 2000). It would start fine first thing but after running down the lake and having her shut down, it would take 3 or 4 tries to get her started again. Giving it some gas when I started it helped some but I never had to do that before. I figured it might be the diaphrams from the posts I had read on this board so I had all 3 of the fuel pumps replaced (about $36.00 each) on the 18th of May and just got it out to test it yesterday. My problems are no more! Runs great and starts the first time, every time.

Thanks John. I took it to a dealer today and hopefully they will find that it is something simple like that as well.
