Ive changed everything....still bogging down...any suggestions?

    Hey guys heres my issue....

I have a 1986 200 hp evinrude that is bogging down when i put a load on it. I have replaced everything to eliminate potential reasons for the problem. I have replaced the stator, trigger, powerpacks, flywheel, starter and VRO. I also put in new reeds. I have cleaned the carborators twices and triple checked the high speed valves. I checked the seats and floats. I have taken the boat out after each of these adjustments and the same thing happens everytime.

Whats happening is this....when i crank the engine it will idle at 800-900 rpms. Once i throttle up the engine hints at increased rpm and then sputters to a cut off. I have tried the choke while increasing throttle and the engine picks up but only slightly. I have checked my bulb and it is hard and the VRO is working well.

Does anyone think that i need to replace my check valves? I have tried just about everything fuel related and i have all new electricals.

Sounds like you need to do a sync n link and check timing.

Same thing happened to my friends boat. It would start and idle fine. Turned out to be the fuel lines collapsing when put under load.

I've done a compression test and have great compression on all cylinders. Witchdoctor can you elaborate on the sync n link? Also 1stratos, with the collapsed fuels....how do I check for that?....thanks guys for the responses...im gonna get rt on it.

Have you checked each cylinderhead for the correct temperature at idle, the carbs for the correct idle and mid-range air jet sizes, float levels and drop, check side cover gasket leakage, make sure each brass pickup tube was clean, spark advance and throttle advance linkage movement and their synchronization? Is the motor overpropped or too deep in the water?

Back in its day, a lot of folks were swapping out different carbs to make that motor idle and accelerate better. Some had good luck drilling thru the idle relief holes into the mid-section to lessen the backpressure.

Did you have the lower unit apart and then this problem started?

Seahorse..My buddy(juan) and I have done a temp check on each cylinder at idle and it is around 150-160F at the most...and that is on the hose so im sure the temp is good...I have gone through every brass tube on each carborator with gumout to ensure it was clean...done that 3 times now...the motor is on a jackplate and at the appropriate level. I cant say i know much about drilling into the mid-section to lessen backpressure....Jughead, ive only taken the lower unit off to check the water pump and it was in great condition.

The reason I asked about the lower unit, it sounds like the bearing carrier could be upside down causing the anode to block off the exhaust.

yes he did have it off and put it back on his self so that could be an issue it ran good one time for about a mile then shut down. found out it was the vro pump because the gas would not flow pass the vro pump also hedid add boyseen reeds so yes he may messed up the sink and link also would a flywheel of a 94 model 200 work on that 86 is the center hub timming the same because he replaced the old flywheel with the 94 i wont tell you why he had to that

Juan is killin me!..lol...well in regard to the lower unit, ive never taken that apart to replace it backwards. As Juan and i continue to discuss the fuel lines we have discovered that my lines coming from the vro are way larger than they need to be. I am going to replace those lines with 5/8 fuel hoses. If that doesnt work i will go in deep and check the check values. Guys i appreciate all your responses...keep em comin!!
