Lifting ring and a hoist is the safest, fastest way. You can buy a ring for around $40 - $50 from a Merc dealer (such as European Marine!). You could have the job done in seriously 10 - 15 minutes.

If you don't have access to a hoist, I would probably just take it into a dealer. Mine was only going to charge me $50 to change the mounting hole position, but wanted $400-$500 to install a hydraulic jackplate, so I bought the lifting ring and did it myself.

Do not attempt this on your own UNLESS you have the following:

    -Appropriate engine hoist
    -904551 Lifting Ring

If you have these items, and basic hand-tools, it's a relatively simple process.

Just remember to seal the bolt shanks at the transom.... and apply sealant between the engine/transom or the engine/jackplate as appropriate.

Thanks, I knew they made something for lifting just couldn't think of what it was called. I have all the other stuff needed. Don't need to seal bolts as has a set back plate. Thanks again guys.
