I'm looking for a motor I found a 1990 200 horse Merc 2.4. I was wondering if any one can tell me pros and cons. It's carborated has steel sleeves, compression advertised as 125, low water pickup LU w/nose cone $1900

Pros: Good engines, plenty of them still out there running. Relatively simple to work on, and in general, parts are still readily available.
Cons: Fuel hungry (by today's standards)... and it's at least 22 years old. Probably going to need a few things done to it....
Highly recommend:
-VERIFY compression (better yet- a leakdown test)
-Gearcase Check (fluid, propshaft runout, shifting)
-Fuel Lines and System Inspection
-Oil Lines and System Inspection
-Maintenance History (and current Needs Review)
-Of course, a test run on the water to confirm proper operation.![]()
