E-Tec diagnostic sw / Palm conmpatibility

I will be buying a pair of E-Tec 175's next month and recall seeing somewhere that BRP has diagnostic SW for reading and writing to the EMM that runs in a Palm or compatible. Is this true and what is the p/n for the cable and sw? I know it's available for PC's, but was hoping it was available for Palm as well. Tkx.

Re: E-Tec diagnostic sw / Palm conmpatibility (WildeOne)

The problem alot of folks seem to be running into with the newer Palm units is finding the proper adapter cable to go between the PDA and the diagnostic cable.
I've also heard of some communication protocol issues with the newest PDA's.

Go to http://www.pcables.com to find out what might be available. The sales guy (Ben) is also pretty knowledgeable about which of the newest PDAs communicate using the BRP software (that protocol thing).

The PDA software is 777230, the diag cable is 437955. I can't help with the PDA and adapter cable costs.

Tkx John.

PS: I did a search on the BRP parts site and the sw came up as a good number, but referenced only thru 90 HP and the cable came up not found. Any thoughts?

Re: (WildeOne)

I have been unsuccesful at trying to get the software and cable for my ETEC from a dealer. I did come up with a solution by reading data from the EMM with a "custom" software. The problem is I can get the data but not in a report format. All I can make heads or tails of is the version number. If I get it working I will offer it on the board to those that would like to use it.

You would think that BRP would not have a problem with the owner checking up on the mechanic to see if they have the correct verion of software loaded for the EMM along with engine hours, RPM reports etc. I have the software for my 115 Fitch and it has been very useful.

The software is a regular part number, as is the cable, that can be ordered from any authorized dealer. The problem is that some dealers do not want to sell the software to a customer. You can always find another dealer, some even sell online.

For FICHT and Evinrude DI software, you can also contact http://www.dfitechnologies.com . They will soon be coming out with their own version and a cable assembly is available now.

I don't expect any problem with the dealer at all ... just trying to nail down a workable h/w and s/w solution. Appreciate all the input.

Palm is an alternative platform to run the diagnostics s/w. A laptop will access MUCH more info. and perform more diagnostics than the Palm will.

Re: (OkieBoatMech)

Remember that the adapter cable is different for different brands & models of PDAs.

The number posted above only works with SONY brand SJ and TJ models. Different brands may use different operating voltages and generally use proprietary connectors which will have different pin-out locations.

And generally with electronics or special orders, you buy it, you own it...
