Reply Mercury 200 Opti and 225 Opti Comparsion
--------------------------------------------------------------------------------
I'm checking in to see if any of you have an answer to the differences between 200 and 225 Optis since they have exact same specs on displacement, gear ratio, max rpm, etc. (other than hp). Is it possible to increase hp on the 200 Opti to 225 with some aftermarket modifications and have the same holeshot and top end as the 225 Opti? Thanks for your inputs!

i asked a similar question of jay smith about getting more from a 225 opti, his comment forget it. ECU/ECM controls all and any attempt to modify will just get you shut down. be interesting to hear any other comments from opti owners who want more go. i guess that old addage is true, speed is a disease. any comments sherm?

Also like to comment that I believe it is against the law to modify a carb rated motor.

This has come up before ... all I remember Sherm saying was it wasnt real feasable. And that there were many changes which would have to be made. Easier to swap the motor.

jfm 49 ,that C A R B rating is a California Air restriction.
The carb 2 and 3 ratings are how clean the emmissions are.
The motor almost is a exhaust purifying machine to meet the act.

Thats why the Direct Fuel Injected motors are the craze. The folks in Cali have to put a DFI or 4 Stroke on their "New purchase" boats. The Verado will give some hope to a performance BASS motor in the future.
