    Verado info...

    Don,

I am currently awaiting my new Verado 300 PRO that will be rigged on my new boat. There isn’t a lot of talk on here about Verados but I was wondering if you would recommend the same fuel additives and how much difference I might see in performance if there are times when I have to use 87 octane fuel. I know that 93 is recommended and I plan on using it always, but that 87 can be used. After having the opportunity to operate an identical outboard to the one I am purchasing I was amazed at the performance of the motor and how quite it runs. Just looking to keep it running that way for a long long time.

Thanks to you and Rhonda for all you do!

I am currently runung a 300 Verado on a Z522 Ranger. The owners manual is a good place to start for info and fluid reccomendations. As far is the engine I have been using quickkleen with every fillup. Most of the time I have used 93 octane fuel. I have 87 a couple of times and if there was a difference, I could not tell. I understand the Verado has a knock sensor and will adjust timing to compensate in the event alower octane fuel was used. Pay attention to oil levels. It is very easy to overfill. Check owners manual one again. Make sure properly speced battery is installed. Merc is reccomending AGM battery. I have about 95 hours on my engine and it has been flawless. Another good site is http://veradoclub.com There a a lot of great tips there that can help you avoid issues in the future.

Same (Mercury Component) cocktail can be run in your New Verado.

There is a notable decrease in performance when utilizing 87 octane fuel. The engine is built and designed to be able to run this fuel.... via modification of the Spark Advance (and boost) based on input from the Knock Sensors.

I'd expect actual propshaft HP to decrease to approximately 275-280hp when running 87 octane.
