My trim motor finally bit the dust today. I had been tapping it for the last few months and finally today it said you can tap me all you want, but I am not working anymore. A guy up at the ramp helped me pick that heavy son of gun up so we could lock it up before heading home. That is a big motor to pick up. Did i say it was HEAVY? I did learn 2 great lessons today though that I would like to pass on,
1. If you are tapping yours to keep it going, don't wait any longer. If I didn't luckily have some help at the launch, I don't think I could have safely trailered it home because of the skeg being so low. Actually, if I didn't have a hydraulic plate, I am not sure I could have even gotten it out of the water without dragging the skeg up the ramp. It is a dice roll on what position it is in when it quits.
2. If yours does happen to go out while fishing and you need to manually lift it like I did today, there is a white plastic screw on the side that you must unscrew to release the pressure. I did not know that, but the guy at the ramp had the same thing happen to him last year and somebody had to tell him also so luckily he was there.
