    MercMonitor/NMEA/Lowrance

I posted this is the Lowrance forum and am hoping somebody can help me out.

Don, I talked to you about this before and Ranger wound up putting the Mercury gauges in at the factory. I don't think it's all connected and talking to each other though.

    Chris:

You were correct in your last statement.

You do NOT have a MercMonitor (that is a System Tach & Speed System).

It is NOT NMEA-2000 compatible, and will therefore NOT do what you're looking to do.

Must have a Level 1 (or Higher) MercMonitor (which contains the gateway for communication with NMEA-2000 devices).

    Re: MercMonitor/NMEA/Lowrance (EuropeanAM)

Dang...that's what I thought you would say.

So it sounds like I need to order a MercMonitor and a cable to connect to my hub? I have a four port hub that it looks like the main line comes into and two lines go out to the tach and the speedo. Can I tap the other port and go out to a new MercMonitor or would I need to go directly to the MercMonitor and then out to the hub? I'm surprised Ranger didn't include everything that was needed to get it all talking.

    Chris:

There are a couple of possible scenarios to rig a MercMonitor into your setup. The fact that you have a junction box in place (with at least one open post) greatly simplifies the situation!

I'd recommend that you give me a call, and we can discuss the options. It's logistically possible to add a MercMonitor (though it becomes a little tricky with the actual configuration- I'll be glad to walk you through that).

Or... you can replace the System Tach & Speed units with a MercMonitor, and a System-Link Tach (all other instruments remain).

I'll be happy to discuss the Pros/Cons of both.

BTW... the connection harness is included with the MercMonitor.

I have a ranger 486v with no gauges and a mercury 150hp 2001, i bought a sytem link tach and speedo and both works fine as they are connected to the tach/ignition switch harnes, after that i bought a merc monitor eco, ver 4.61 reflashed, all the wiring and junction box, and nothing looks to work as did not recognice the engine and after a few secons display the LOST ENGINE COM , i check the blue and white wires and did not make any diference , my question is
must work separate the mercmonitor ant the sistem tach and speedo? the mercmonitor will not work an a 2001 smartcraft motor?, the autodetection fail with the NOT STARBOARD ENGINE FOUND, but the DDT detects the stb engine and motor, the monitor no, have an idea to solve this? i was thinking in search a 2002 or newer computer, may be 2001 is not for the monitor?? thanks in advance for any help.

    Welcome to BBC!

The problem you're having is that you have TWO Smartcraft Instrument Sets attempting to latch the same engine's CAN signal as a "Master" Instrument.

I'll be happy to walk you through the process of setting this up, if you would like. You would need to speak with me by PHONE, as it can be a bit tricky.

BTW... a 4.601 version is NOT NMEA-2000 compatable (just an FYI).

If you need further assistance, please open a new thread to avoid hi-jacking.
