3.0L 225 search

I'm looking to upgrade my motor from the current 200 that I have to a 225 (3.0). I need to know what models came with the 3.0 from 2000 on up to current. My search should start in February and knowing this stuff will make it a little easier. Thanx guys

Most of the 225s are 3.0. The "promax" 225 ill be a 2.5.

+1.... would also be a good idea to obtain the serial number of any "prospect engine".

If used, be SURE to have the engine checked out, including (at least):

-Compression Test (better yet- a Leakdown Test)
-Gearcase Check (fluid quality, propshaft runout, shift quality)
-Computer Diagnostic Printouts
-Maintenance History (and current Needs Review)
-Test run on the water to confirm proper operation

Can't be any more thirstier than the 200xri I am using now.

What is a propshaft runout? That I haven't heard.
What about a private sale? compression test is a gimme but a computer diagnostic?? That might be more difficult to get through a private sale. what do you think?

Checking propshaft runout involves utilizing a dial-indicator to ensure that the propshaft is not bent.

Any reputable seller that doesn't have something to "hide" should be willing to work with you "reasonably" to have the engine properly checked over.

I'd probably shy away from one that seems "reluctant".

They are more thirsty than your xri. Alot more. But those things are a BEAST!! When you move up to a big block you'll know what they mean by (a wolf among sheep)......................

I would think something like a 225 Pro XS would be LESS thirsty along with a lot more torque.

I just moved from my old 200 xri to a 225 Optimax and saved a TON of gas. But they are a little more costly than a 225 efi.
