    on the water now question

In a buddies boat right now we were idling around and his continuous alarm went off and his smart craft read normal temp then dropped to 75...was 125-118.... do we idle back or trolling motor it. 2 miles no wind no rain. Alarm has stopped after resart of engine and water temp not coming up. 250 proxs

Re: on the water now question (Clif Kincaid)

IDLE speed only if the temp does not come up to the 120 degree range.

Have thermostats inspected... you likely have DEBRIS in one (or both) thermostats.

After setting for a bit and kept restarting the temp would be fine. So we thought the same thing about something stuck in the tstat. So at idle speeds there would be no motor issues in mid 40's water temp with boat temp in the 70's. IDLING ONLY like said.

Idle speed only- would be much the same as STARTING the engine in cold temps (and is very unlikely to cause a problem).

Get those T-stats checked before running it again, however.
