    2006 225 Optimax

Hey guys I have a 2006 triton TR21X HP with a 225 optimax ---27 tempest i bought this boat from a guy that just had a new powerhead from mercury put on it... I got it right after it came home from the dealer,,so i had to do the new break in.... anyways i have been following the exact break in procedures from mercury and after about 10 hours on it I decided to run it WOT and it would only get around 5000-5200 RPMS.... Is this normal? surely it can run a 27 tempest.. i have a 26 im going to try this week but something doesnt seem right for it to stop at 5200RPMs

that's alot of prop for a 21 foot boat, i would think a 25 would be a ideal prop for that rig.

I had a 2006 225 optimax myself its redline is 5750.You wont spin a 27 to that on that boat.Id try a 23-25p trophy. The smaller diameter helps you get away with a bit more pitch.

Try a 25 pitch. Much better suited to that boat, with a 225 Standard Optimax.

I agree, you sound overpropped.Make sure the motor is running properly, and then prop to run close to the limiter.Lugging a motor not only hurts performance, but throws an unfair load on the crank bearings, wrist pins, etc. and may result in early mechanical failure. Its important that the motor be propped so it can turn close to its max rpm, dosent mean you have to run it there,Chris

Update!! Ran the 26 TEMP+ and was hitting the rev limiter "beep" "beep" "beep"68.6 --> 69.2<--- Then put on a 26 Fury right out of box and was staying at 5600RPMS 73.6 --> 74.1 <-- Should i try a 25 Fury?? so it doesnt lug the motor and get coser to the rev limiter 5750?

Although I'd like to see you up there real close to 5700-5750... I believe you're going to be bumping the limiter this time of year with a 25P "stock" Fury.

Perhaps run the 26P Fury in the winter.... and a 25P in the warmer, summer months (when the engine has a harder time making the same RPM's due to atmospheric conditions).

I know there are so many varibles.. i was running a full tank of gas but the boat is empty,, Once i get all the gear in it .. Maybe the 25 Fury is the one.. I was having intermintteent rpms every now and then.. I would be at 5600 WOT then it would drop to about 5200 and then back up to 5600 like a full line collaspe etc.. I know the lines where changed and are grey with blue lettering up to the motor.. you think this is a bad primer bulb? Thank you sir..

Before we go there.... was this with the 26P Tempest (which was hitting the limiter, and could account for your above description).... or with the 26P Fury?

If you're hitting the limiter, the engine is likely to go into Guardian (until you reduce throttle setting)... and then would return to full throttle when you next accelerated.

It waws when i was running the 26 Fury at 5600RPMS.. I would notice a drop in MPH and rpms then it would pick back up... In other words I would be at 73 72 71 70 69 68 67 66 MPH then start picking up again

    Re: (Jbasspro24)

Based on your above information, I'd go ahead and:

    -Replace primer bulb
-REVERIFY fuel lines, just to ensure you indeed have ALL fuel lines updated
    -REBUILD PULSE FUEL PUMP
    -Replace Fuel Filter

Then see how it does with the 26P Fury (don't trust the results too much until you can get it to HOLD WOT RPM's long enough to "stretch it's leg's").
