Checked oil tank tonight and I have oil on top of the tank around and on the cap that has the oil lines on it. Does this mean I need a new o-ring? Also would this cause the purging of the tank on the motor hard to do....reason I ask is I tried to purge the other day and it didn't want to fill up.
This indicates that you have a LEAK somewhere around the cap.
Could be an o-ring, loose cap, or a cap that has a hairline CRACK in it.
ANY leak at this point will hamper your attempts to bleed the system.
The BEST way to determine the leak is to CLEAN all surfaces COMPLETELY (a good quality detergent cleaner is best). DRY COMPLETELY.
Obtain some Lotrimin Athlete's Foot SPRAY powder. Spray the entire area down (leaves a white powder).
Run the engine for a few minutes, and see where the powder is disturbed/washed away.
This can also be done while performing a PRESSURE TEST (IMPORTANT NOTE: Oil tank should NEVER be pressurized above 9 psi while testing- excessive pressure can cause damage to the system, or even blow the seams on the tank wide open)
