    Canon Rebel T2 or T3, i?

The wife and I are looking at one of these cameras. Never had a SDLR. What are the deferent’s between them? I can not see much between the T and i. I know one is 12.2 mp and the i is 18mp. What will the EOS get me? I know there is more to them than that. Were looking at the Canon Rebel 2T, 2Ti, 3T and 3Ti. We can get them as a combo with the typical 18 to 55 and a 55 to 250 lens. Judging by cost the 3Ti would get the nod, but with trying to keep cost reasonable, what is recommended.

    Thanks for your help.

All of them are good cameras. Only you can decide how much you want to spend and if video is worth the added cost. I wouldn't rule out a used one to save even more money. You have to sign up to view the for sale forum, however a lot of good deals on the camera's you mentioned above plus 20, 30, 40, 50, and 60D's too....basically for entry level, pick the dollar amount you want to spend. Don't get hung up with how many pixels they capture.

Look here for used and other threads about the cameras you questioned. http://photography-on-the.net/...p?f=9

Thanks for the info. I think we are looking at the 3Ti. What is the EOS?

The biggest difference between the "i" models and the non "i" models is the ability to shoot video. If that is at all important to you then you want either the T2I or the T3i.

Beyond that they are all very capable cameras, i would find the one that best fits your budget and go for it.

As far as what "EOS" stand for, from what i gather its just a name for the Canon's DLSR line, just like they call the point and shoots "powershots" or sony calls their DSLR's "Alpha".

    Taken off the web

"Some rumous have it, that Canon originally named these cameras after the goddess of 'dawn' in Greek mythology, who's name was EOS. The analogy being, the dawning of autofocus capable SLR cameras. Autofocus of course, refers to communication between camera and lens being completely electronic.

More recently , Canon described the letters EOS as meaning 'Electro-Optical System', of which they have copywrite. Canon first made reference to the term EOS in the late 1980's when they produced their first auto focus SLR camera. All EOS camera's made today, still work with the lenses built back then.

Many people mistakenly believe that the term EOS stands for some new special feature built into Canon digital SLR cameras. However, as explained above, EOS camera's have been around for over 25 years and is really nothing new in todays terms."

What budget are you trying to stay around?

We're wanting to stay under a grand. We found an offer at the local shop for an 3Ti kit that has the 18-55 and 55-250 lens, 8g card and bag all for under a grand. I know the lens are okay but not great. I do feel they will get our feet wet and then can upgrade.

    Any thoughts?

As Jim said that is a great camera to start off with. Those lenses will be just fine to learn with and you can upgrade in time. Looks like a decent price also. Get it and get to shooting
