    250 XS Trim issue

I have an 05 250 XS Ser # OT999026 320 hrs. Today after a long high speed run, I attempted to trim the motor down and slow down. The trim goes up but will not come down. Not a whine, buzz no clicks or anything. Has been working fine! Any ideas? Going to the shop tomorrow. Thanks!

Re: 250 XS Trim issue (ZO6)

does the trim down button work anywhere?

if not its the trim relay probably, its like a 20 dollar part and a 5 minute fix. i fixed mine on the water in a tournament last year.

on the drivers side of the motor under the cowling there are 3 relay blocks mounted to the motor. all 3 are the same (on my 08 250 anyway) but its trial and error to find the right one unless you know the wire colors.

Down trim does not work on shift lever or motor. Up works great. Am assuming there must be an up and down relay. Are they the same? Should they both be replaced? What is the 3rd relay for?
    Thanks for your help!

Replace BOTH trim relays. Shouldn't cost you but about $30-35 for both of them.

The trim relays are the TWO FORWARD relays. This is a two-wire trim system, with COMMON OPERATING, Polarity Reversing Relays. Both relays function at the same time, in opposite polarity modes. That's why I recommend replacing BOTH relays (if one has failed- the other is often right behind it).

Don't mess with the REAR relay (it's the MPR or Main Power Relay). If you were to get a faulty relay in this position: the ENGINE WILL NOT START.

Note: While "on the water"... if you would need to temporarily "fix" the problem: You could simply "swap" the two forward relays. This would "reverse" the problem (in your case, the engine would then trim DOWN, but not UP). Handy trick when you need to get back to the ramp (or boat on the trailer).

    Relays in shipment! Thanks Don!

Had my Deka starting battery checked by Sears and they said the battery is good! However, even though it is on the approved list it apparently is marginal for the 250 XS! Bought and installed a Sears Platinum PM 1 battery today seems to have cured voltage issues. My voltage hardly moves now when I operate the trim or hydraulic jack plate.
    THanks
