Need advice on camera purchase (point and shoot)

I need to buy 2 cameras this Christmas and need advice.
One camera is for my 16yo daughter. Her Sony Cybershot 3 years old and now longer functions. She is in need of another point and shoot that will fit well in her purse. (budget goal $150-250)

Second camera is for my wife. Her sony cybershot was dropped and lens will no longer extend. She is not a shutterbug or overly enthusiastic about gadgets. This one can be a larger SLR type if need be. She would also like the ability to video the daughters volleyball games and is unsure if she would need to purchase a camcorder as well. (budget goal $3-500)

Although the Cybershots were recommended to me, notice that both are broken. Who repairs them and is it worth the cost?
