    Sneezing?

Don,everytime I crank my 98 225efi when I first pull it off the trailer it sneezes. It doesn't do it the rest of the day just on the first start of the day.Any suggestions? Also my mechanic said to turn the key on for about 5 seconds 3 times to let the fuel prime in the motor but no luck with that.

This is indicating a lean-running condition.

Would be a good idea to have the following verified FIRST:

-CHAMPION QL77CC Spark Plugs (in good condition)- accept NO substitutes
-TPS adjustment within specification at IDLE
-TEMP SENSORS functioning properly (including IAT or Intake Air Temp Sensor)

IF the above are within specifications, you may want to consider having your injectors cleaned (and reeds inspected).

Not wanting to hijack this post but reeds can make a lean sneeze at idle?

Lean sneezing is one of the top two causes of reed failure.... and if a reed is damaged, the engine will often "sneeze" or "wheeze".

Hi Don, Keith here, I was just wanting to know why sometimes bad bleed lines will make your motor sneeze? Just curious because I have read you saying this will sometimes be the case. My Motor 99EFI has only sneezed once and after I replaced a bad bleed hose it has never done it again, Thanks

Ps. It happened after fishing for 3 hours straight with the motor trimmed up:

    Re: Sneezing? (TritonCowboy)

Bleed lines are used to recirculate puddled or unburnt fuel from one area of the engine (usually the intake area) to another area of the engine where it can be burnt, or used for lubrication.

When a bleed line breaks or cracks, it allows air to enter into fittings and/or check valves. If this air finds a pathway to the combustion chamber, it causes a lean mixture, or an incorrect fuel/air mixture. Sneezing or misfiring is then the result.

If the engine happens to be running with the cowling off, you'll often note that the "sneeze" is accompanied by a "puff of smoke" the comes from the offending bleed line.

Thanks Don, That makes perfect sense I always inspect the bleed lines every time before I go on the water.

Thank you sir for the explanation. Hope you had a good Thanksgiving

Thanks Don I noticed that after mine sneezed one time I smelt gas and took the cover off and found one of the fuel lines off that lubes the crank so I zip tied all my fuel lines that I could get to.
