Thats about what I figured. Seems everything I run across now is either Evinrude powered or a NASCAR edition boat.

I hear alot of negative things about The E-Tecs. The older Evinrude motors back in the early 90's were good motors. All outboard motors will blow. I have had a 05 Mercury Blow and a 03 Yamaha. You will here good and bad about all of them. I have owned 1 Johnson, 1 Nissan, 1 Yamaha, and 4 Merc's and have had trouble out of all them. But If I had too pick 1 brand that would hold up and last for the long run I would have to pick a Merc.

Yes...they will all blow....my Yamaha blew over the weekend. Buddy of mine's opti blew a little while back...

I've always heard there are two types of motors.....ones that are about to blow and ones that have already blown.....

I did have a 96 150 Evinrude on my first boat (18ft stratos) and it ran like a scolded dawg everytime I turned the ket. Just seems that I've heard more horror stories from them HOs...seems the newer ETECs aren't as problematic.

Im looking for newer than that, but I appreciate the heads up. 05-08 ranger 20' is what I am looking for.

I just ran across an 07 z20 that looks to be in good shape, 150 hours, powerhead replaced under warranty in 08 from stuck injector he claims. Looks like a slick boat, asking $27

If you are going to buy any brand DFI motor make sure it has warranty on it, doesn't matter who makes it. Your main concern should be who is in your area that is qualified and recommended to service it. An 07 and up E-tec is a good choice. There are plenty of early model year e-tecs still in service with no issues. As always have it checked out by a reputable service center that is familiar with the product and has the needed diagnostic tools.
