    Pouring my own plastics

With the price of plastic lures goin up I have been trying to make my own. I do pretty good with sweet beavers and worms ,but trying to make a rage or paca craw it has been tough. Partially because you really have to do an injection mold. If you could help it would be heavily appreciated..

If I attempt to save money by doing it myself, My lures wind up costing twice as much.

I like the generic knock off soft plastics sold on ebay.
I think the new secret color is "A-Rig"..........

There is an inexpesive way this is what i did. Foil pie plate from wally world greased it up with vaseline mixed up 2 cups of plaster of paris poured it in and the greased my baits up anp placed them almost all the way in . I only use plastic from baits Ive torn while fishing. Then melt them pour wait 5 mins. and get them out. They look good but my only problem is the plastic is getting wat to soft.

I bet it's like paint. (body shop) If ya mix up a bunch of partial cans, ya come up with brown.

With lures, It's probably the same...and green pumpkin is probably really close to the color you'de get.

Its pretty easy what ever color you use like junebug when you melt it down and pour it it comes out junebug. No not on some kind of budget I make my own finnese jigs also. I just enjoy making ne lures and I live in a town with no bait shop so if I find them on a friday b4 a tournament I just pour some of the baits I caught them on.

you can buy an aluminum mold for something similar to a paca craw from delmart and bobs tackle shop. if you are interested in pouring i have a ton of aluminum molds and resin molds i might part with right. making jigs and spinnerbaits and painting cranks takes up all my tackle making time and have almost quit the plastics with the exception of a few custom molds i had made.

Re: Pouring my own plastics (arkbuck)

I've got a little box in my boat that I toss my used plastics in. I'll try one for awhile, throw it in the box, and grab a different one.
When practicing or playing, I pretty much just use out of that box only. Rarely do I get into the packages of new stuff.

I'm bad to bite the heads off worms and use the rest. (If I'm catching fish on a 8" lizzard, It'll be a 4" lizzard before I trashcan it)

I may have the worlds record for making the most out of a Beaver. A buddy gave me ONE. It was some wild color and said it worked. He was right. I caught 15 to 20 fish on that one beaver. Won a tournament with it. And a fish got away with it right at dark that evening. (and ya'll know, as a general rule, a beaver just isn't designed for re-use)

If I get one that isn't torn up too bad,I will put it back in the package to use again.

That is probably why I don't buy zoom. They don't hold up worth a damn.

I wish I could figure out a way to cut the skirt on tube jigs. Anyone have any idea how to do that and make them look uniform?
