    compressor pully

just wanted to let everyone know of a possable problem i had this past week. i was running my 2100 gambler with a 2006 225 proxs at 5000 rpms and then it just lost power and died. I made it to my mechanic and when we took off the cover and the top plate the compressor pully was flopping around. The 6 nuts that hold it on sheared off. my mechanic said he has seen it a few times and he was able to get the studs out and replace then. there was no damage and i was back on the water. called mercury to give them a heads up and they said they never heard of that happening. just a fyi for everyone

    Re: compressor pully (flippedout)

Thanks for info. I have heard of bolts shearing off but all 6 at the same time not sure if I remember that one. I have a 2006 that has been bullet proof so far.

    Glad they got you going.

    Re: compressor pully (06champ198)

Mine did the same exact thing - sheared all 6. Fouled a plug in the process but otherwise no damage.

I was told at the time certain runs of the bolts were defective. Not sure but I haven't had a problem since and that was 2 years ago.

    Re: compressor pully (flippedout)

I've seen a couple do this..... but it's usually an inexpensive, and "quick" fix.

Replace the bolts with "appropriate OEM replacements".... and UTILIZE LIQUID RED LOCTITE on the bolts.

The bolts you receive will likely have a red "thread-lock paste"... which is often inadequate to properly retain the bolts in place (I've even seen some that could be threaded all the way in by hand).
