Anybody been down there yet this year. Me and my partner and one of my buddies and his brother-in-law are possibly headed down there Saturday for an all day long fishing trip. Could possibly be good with 3 straight days of 65-70 degree temps...![]()

I went there yesterday, and it was terrible... Water temp still in high 40's to low 50's. This front really shut it down. Only 5 boats on the entire lake for most of the day. Fished deep and never got bit.
I hope that this warmer weather over the next few days will turn them on...sucks that it picks Saturday to cool off again though. Would love to top the 8lb mark. Best I've done is 7lb 4 ounces.
I have caught multiple fish between 4-7, but caught one 10.7 and one 9.10
its honestly amazing...great time...but gotta remember the slot and catch and release to keep it going...just my opinion
I never keep fish...too much trouble to clean...when I get home from an all day of fishing, the last thing I want to do is spend a couple hours cleaning fish...
I will say that if by chance I catch crappie or walleye while out fishing, they go into the livewell, never to see their home again...![]()
I dont catch bass to eat either...
catfish another story...love them...
Actually there needs to be more harvest of fish under the slot at Lake Monticello. Currently, there is little to no harvest causing stacking in the slot. The males are growing in and not growing out. Last year, we did a second round of age and growth and got 7 fish that were originally stocked in the lake!! If there was more harvest of the fish under the slot, there would be more groceries for the big ol females to get bigger!! A good analogy is you can have a pond with 100 1 pound fish or a pond with 50 3 pound fish ( What I'm trying to get at is, you will have fewer fish but bigger fish). We are finishing up our creel survey at the lake this week and we have already seen some very interesting results!! Thank you to all the people that participated in the creel survey and mail survey.

One of my pet peeves is that conservation does not only mean catch and release, it also includes selective harvest. That is why we have daily, possesion, and slot limits on different lakes. I have no problem taking some fish home to eat (does not matter what species I like them all), but there are lakes that I will take more per year from than others. If people are unwilling to participate in selective harvest then there will always be lakes like Maumelle where you can go and catch all the 12 to 14 inch fish that you want. I think that lake could use some predators taken out of it. OK Rant over

NO great ideas and thoughts....yes i agree totally there is a reason for season deer limits, and limits on fish...there has to be a balance..![]()
Don't get me wrong....I love to eat some bass. I just hate cleaning them...If my brother in law is with me, he will keep some here and there but very selective on which ones he/we keeps. Now, if we are fishing on our home lake that we fish weekly tournaments on, every fish is returned.
I love me some bass, and given the time to clean them and not being on home lake, little slimy swimmers will wind up in my big ole belly![]()
Got \'em
I dont see any problem at all with keeping a few for the supper table. I enjoy eating them as much as the next guy. I just hate to see someone hauling a 5 pounder off to be butchered.
