Cranking battery is a SC34M. Every Optimax engine that leaves on a boat from us has this battery and we have had ZERO issues with them.

I ponied up and bought one. If it sets for a few weeks it is dead as a hammer. Never had that issue with a battery before. Could have bought 2 Dekas for what I paid for it

    Re: optima battery (TarheelXRD)

I have personally had several of them for cranking batteries. The last one was on my red jet boat and the only time I would have to charge it is if I listened to the stereo for several hours at the house.

Realy sounds like something is draining the battery James, try fully charging it and undoing tha cables, then ck it in a few weeks.

I would consider other brands. Dad bought all new optimas - they lasted 2 years and gave out (fishing mainly on weekends). For the money 2 years isn't justifiable

    Re: (T Dub)

I had a similar experience with three Optimas dieing in 18-24 months. 2 deep cycles, 1 start. So they won't see my money again. I was using the triple charger that came with my Triton (at that time), with the Triton name on it, which I believe was made by Dual Pro.

    Re: (mbrund)

I have run Optimas in the last 3 bass boats and two off shore boats I have owned. Never an issue. I had 3 years out of my last set and changed them just because. They were still kicking strong till the day i replaced them.

I run a 24v troller and only two sc31's in my rig total. Power poles, graphs, well, crank motor. NO Issues.

Not sure if it matters or not but i never leave my charger plugged in for days on end. Trickle or not.. It may or may not have something to do with the life i get out of my batteries.

Battery brand choice is like the old Ford or Chevy debate.. It will never end and anything can have a failure.

What about that 15K Yamaha that blew up with 5 hrs on it or the 15K 250H.O etec that had been thru 3 lower units, fuel injectors, sensor after sensor and still never ran right with less 180 hrs on it... Anything and everything that can go wrong will go wrong when you own a boat. Get used to it or get a scooter

Even if they Optimas do work as well as other brands they are too expensive. When people start seeing 6 years out of a set consistently I'll pay the difference

6 years out of any battery... Yeah I would buy those as well as long as they are sealed.

If your getting 6 years out of a battery then you better play the lottory and stay out of thunderstorms.

    Re: (Hydrilla Gear)

The first 2 Optimas (when they first came out)I had lasted me 7 years. I used them for 5 on the trolling motor, then used them for another 2 years as cranking batteries. I sold the boats they were in, so I dont know if they are still going or not.

    Re: (marty92xrd)

I give batts 2 maybe 3 at most then look to swap them no matter what. Just how i do things.

Mike you don't count because you run them on a yamaha which you know is going to add 4 years to anything you touch and make it better then anything else out there

You can get 2 maybe 3 years out of Wal-mart specials

    Re: (T Dub)

This is kinda of my point if you had a poll of this I almost gurantee you it would be 50/50 on this. So my point is with my bad luck I won't spend the money again and be on the wrong side of that 50%. My point is a Deka or even a Walmart will last just as long for half the money and if it only last 2 years and have to buy another one then I am still ahead of the game
