I took my new 250 XS out yesterday for its maiden voyage. Motor ran great. Finished the initial break in. When I came back to the ramp, the motor would idle high when I put it in neutral. If I shut it off and restarted the motor, it would go back down to normal. Also dropped back down if I hit the hot foot. Did it a couple of times, then was fine when I put it on the trailer.
Your hotfoot is not properly returning the engine's throttle linkage FIRMLY against the idle stop.
This needs to be addressed ASAP to prevent gearcase damage and/or PCM faults.
Could be a simple adjustment, cable in a bind, or loose return spring on the hotfoot.
