Mercury optimax 225 oil were the reeds are at.

If you open the throttle wide open. Should there be a puddle of oil in the bottom were the reeds are located at. Have noise and no take off power. Compression was good. Wanted to ask again before i replace the reeds. I only hear the noise when i back off the throttle when coming off plane, and it takes forever getting out of the hole. It never did this before. Thanks for all your help Don.

It is normal to see oil puddled in the bottom of the intake.

To double check you can look at the reeds in the intake with a mirror. Same thing happened to my Opti except my whole motor was covered in oil. Pay close attention because it can just be a very small chip in the reed

This is a good "general" check. Keep in mind.... approximately 50% of the reed's surface is NOT viewable from the front side. The BEST way to inspect reeds is by removing the reed block/intake attenuator assembly.

how hard is too take of the reed block/intake antenuator for the average guy. are there any special tools needed? my motor sounds like it has the same symtoms as mentioned before. ( poor hole shot with good compression, and noise)

It really isn't that bad. I did it without much prior knowledge of 2 stroke's. You just have to take your time and plan on replacing the gaskets on the intake.

Oh yeah, when I pulled mine off and inspected it, I had 5 out of 6 reed blocks that had chipped or broken reeds.

Don can get you fixed up with all the parts you need to get it done.

    +1 .... not extrememly difficult.

I would recommend that you have a factory repair manual on hand to use as a guide.
