    Dirty Injectors?

I have a 2007 Optimax ProXS 225 that I have owned for about a year. Yesterday while fishing I noticed something odd, and I don't think it was just the oppresive heat playing tricks on me! When I would try to rev up the motor with it in neutral, the motor would bog down terribly and an alarm would sound. Whenever I put it in gear, though, everything would work fine and it would get up on plane with no problems. My tournament partner suggested that the fuel injectors were clogged/dirty. Does this sound right? If so, what's the best fix? Or.....should I not worry about it since it gets on plane fine? Thanks in advance!!

That motor will not let you rev over a certain rpm in neutral, my 250xs is the same. Don will be on here and let us know what rpm will set off the alarm in neutral. Your motor is OK.

You were probably hitting your rev limiter.

Your engine is equipped with a PCM that monitors the "gear position" (in gear, or in neutral).

You should NEVER, EVER attempt to rev your engine in neutral. When you do, the PCM "realizes" that the shift position is in neutral (with no load), and the following happen:

-PCM logs a "Neutral Overspeed Fault"
-PCM Rev Limits the engine (to approximately 1300-1500 RPM's, depending on calibration)
-If you do not let off the throttle, PCM logs an Abusive Overspeed (Stage 1) fault and enacts engine Guardian, limiting power.
-If you still do not let off the throttle, PCM logs an Abusive Overspeed (Stage 2) fault and begins shutting down up to all six cylinders in an attempt to reduce engine speed.

Keep in mind, should your engine fail, it's really not in your best interest to have faults registered in the PCM's Fault History that say "Abusive Overspeed".

They indicate that you've ignored the warning horn and tried to keep the "hammer down", despite the PCM's best attempts to keep you from doing the "unthinkable".
