    External Fuel/Water separator

I know, I know they are not recommended BUT, long story short, my gas tank was filled with salt water and even though I have drained and some what cleaned it I want to run a external filter on it for atleast a few months.. This way I can make sure no water was/is trapped in the tank and give me peace of mind
So, all that said, what filter would you recomend for a 2003 225 EFI?
Thanks in advancee for youe help!!!

    Sean,
there are certain parameters that an external filter must meet for your optimax.fuel flow is one of them. Don will probably chime in shortly. the filter on the motor is quite sensitive and will set off alarms with just a little water...in my experience. Also those filters are about forty bucks...though I guess one could dry them out and re-use them. As to your comment "some what cleaned it" I would be very careful and thoroughly clean the tank or have someone do it for you.

As you already know- it is NOT RECOMMENDED. The installation of additional filters can introduce a fuel supply restriction, resulting in poor performance and/or lean engine operation.

That being said- if salt water in the fuel system is a concern, a water separating filter MAY be the lesser of "two evils".

I'd recommend a Mercury or Quicksilver water separating filter kit, OR, as an alternative, a Racor 10 micron kit.

Ensure that ALL FITTINGS in and out of the filter are STRAIGHT NIPPLES (avoid adding 90 degree fittings, since they essentially equal the restriction value of 8' of flexible fuel line).

Change filter REGULARLY, and monitor for water. If, after 20 hours of operation no water is noted, GET RID of the filter.

Thanks guys! Yeah, I fugured ut was the lesser of two evils, and have every intention to remove it after I run a tank or two of fuel threw the system..
Common sense tells me I need the the 5/16ths line to the engine, BUT since I am running a 3/8ths line from my tank, do I do the split from 3/8ths to 5/16ths @ the filter, or at the ball? Or does it not matter?
Also, I am assuming a 60 gallon a hour filter will be all set for my 225EFI?
    Thanks again!

Kind of answeared my own questions.. I think I am going to use the Racor 660R-RAC-01 has the 3/8ths openings and 90 gph.. I will run the 3/8 to the ball and 5/16 from there.. and 90gph will be plenty...
    Thanks again!!

That sounds like a good plan.... hopefully you'll be able to get that filter out of there soon.
