    Toledo Bend, LA

My wife and I are going to Toledo Bend, LA on vacation in June to do some bass fishing. We are coming from Orlando, FL and are flying into New Orleans and then driving up to Toledo Bend. Does anyone have any recommendations for a decent place to stay while we are at the lake. I would also like to hire a fishing guide for a day, does anyone have any recommendations. Thanks.

The nicest place to stay on the lake is probably at Cypress Bend. That is where most of the bigger tourneys go out of. If you golf, they have a nice golf course there as well. (Disclaimer: I don't play but my brother does and he and his wife stayed there last year and played a round or two-lol). If you don't want to spend that much money on a place to stay there are a bunch of marinas that have cabins that you can find on the website mentioned above-some are nice and some are not so nice. And I can tell you that you can't go by the pictures on websites-lol. Not sure where they get some of those pics at. And there are some houses that are for rent that are nice from what I have been told but can't remember the names of the places. But if you have the cash, Cypress Bend is probably the nicest place on the Bend IMO.

There aren't many restaurants in the area. Cypress Bend has one in the hotel. I heard it's ok. El Giro by Toledo Tackle is good. The Fisherman's Galley by the Pendleton Bridge is pretty good. That's about all my knowledge of restaurants in the area. Joe Joslin would get my vote for the fishing guide.

For a place to stay check out Shady Oaks lodge. They are located mid lake. There are several different size cabins. Really nice. Last several times I've been thats where we stay at. Dont know of anything about guides.

...and if you eat too much salsa for supper, you'll be up all night. My partner found out the hard way.

That's the one I was trying to think about Jeremy. Have heard some good things about it.

If I was going to hire a guide on the Bend, it would probably be Joslin, Tommy Martin, or Harold Allen. Don't think you could go wrong with any of them. Also think that Ben Matsubu guides there which would probably be good.

As far as food-the Fisherman's Galley that was mentioned has just plain food which is good. If the BBQ place headed north on the highway you turn on beside Toledo Town is still open, I wouldn't recommend it. Tried it and really nothing special. There is not a lot of places to eat around there IMO except for some of the marinas which cook and some of them make good hamburgers but most are just short order stuff.
