JEFFERSON PARISH SHERIFFS OFFICE TARGETING DISABLED VETERANS

In the past three months my wife has been stopped 5 times by Jefferson Parish Sheriffs Officers because I put disabled veteran plates on our vehicles. I suffered a spinal cord injury in Iraq and these plates were earned. On top of earning the plates, I had to go through a detailed process of verification to ensure that I am qualified to display these plates. And to have my wife targeted and harassed because her husband is a disabled veteran is less than despicable. So to all you other veterans out there be on the lookout for asinine cops harassing disabled veterans. Way to go Jefferson Parish Sheriffs Office, you have so little crime to fight that you can just randomly harass disabled veterans.

If my wife would have been stopped five times for what you believe to be random harrasment, I would be banging on somebody's desk. Starting with the sheriffs office, the FBI, the news media, and that guy that investigates bad cops. I would guess that Jefferson Parish has dash cams in all their units.

My wife told the deputy last night that she was being harassed because of the plate and the deputed stated, "license plates are government property and the police has the right to stop you if they want to stop you."

I call bullshit!

That would be considered profiling if the reason for stopping your wife is the disabled veteran plates. Very sad if that is the case and if so set them suckers up.

Dash cams don't do anything unless it is for the cops benefit.

They do not issue her any tickets. They just stop her, question her profusely about the DV plate, check all her documents, and harass her for around 30-45 minutes. This shit is getting old. I understand if she was breaking the law, but "COME ON MAN."

I guess I don't understand the motive, sounds almost too horrible to be true. Did she get a ticket at any of the stops?

+1 And usually you have vets that serve as cops in most police forces so I would expect the opposite treatment.

No tickets. I don't understand the reason. One cop said that he didn't understand why a young blonde was driving a car with the a DV plate. Sorry, but does it friggin matter who is driving the car. I could understand if she was parking in handicap spaces without me present, but that is not the case.

Did someone steal a bunch of DV plates? And anyway, just run the plate.

Does not surprise me. I don't mean to offend anyone that lives there but Jefferson Parish is horrible at any level of government. The worse in the state!! Even worse than Orleans!!

Chad if i was you i would take Barrys advise and would go on offense for a change.The news media loves these kinda stories and would jump all over this especially if you knew of other Vets that were having trouble with the cops..

I am a disabled vet as well and have the tags too. Every time i get pulled over the first thing they ask is "is this your truck'' i guess they think that some old person is supposed to have them. Is your wife hot, if so they just might be looking for eye candy, and that is the excuse.

I'd be having a meeting with the sheriff and the district attorney raising as much hell as I could until it gets solved. I'd even call national news networks depending on how pissed I got.
