    Toledo Bend Report

Just got back from a 4-day trip and wanted to give a heads-up to anyone going there soon.

Fishing was very slow Thursday - Saturday with high pressure and bluebird skies. Sunday was much better. I boated 6 and culled one. My best was a 4lb 5oz which won our tournament for largest bass. My Sunday total was 13.8. Not bad for a 1/2 day of fishing. My prior two days were skunked.

I threw everything under the Sun at them and found that the most productive lure was a War Eagle blue herring spinner bait 3/8 oz and the only place it worked well was on the flats in Patroon next to main lake.

I found plenty of muddy water back in the other spots I usually fish with only small non-keepers in those. Other pockets that had suspended fish on the sonar would not produce any fish.

Blue lake had nice looking water but I only saw one boat bring in a fish in 3 hours and it was a non-keeper.

The water stayed between 50 and 55 degrees for the whole trip which is too cold for spawn but the fish were definitely on the flats in Patroon.

Good luck to whoever is going. I hope this info helps.

    Steve

We hit the buck brush hard and caught a few but the open flats 4-9ft worked the best.

Anyone going to the TOBI next week needs to throw all the above spinnerbaits away. They are NO good on Toledo Bend. Don't waste your time.

Did I mention I caught over 27 lbs on that exact spinner bait last year for the TOBI? Including a 6 pounder. Finished 21st.

BTW, congrats on a good day of fishing.

it's not on the map, but if you run about 27 miles north of Huxley Bay you'll be all over it.

That flat at the junction of Patroon and the main lake kicks ass!

I've worn them out there more than once.

Man, you just let out my best kept secret. Looks like the red neck yacht club out there most weekends from now til July. Boats tie up to each other and BBQ and chunk carolina rigs.

Yes it does. I've never fished it in the spring time but I have friends that do and they are on it wind permitting. I was on some nice fish from June until November. Didn't get a chance to get out on the lake again until the LOBI.

You guys keep an eye out for that blue/white bullet. Dat sumumagun has given a 'How-To' on the water before.

Housen flats had so many boats last year you could have walked from shore to main lake without getting your feet wet. I did not try Housen this year because of that.

    Re: Toledo Bend Report (210SP)

You caught some better weight than we did bud. We were there for the same 4-day stretch as you and it was pretty tough. I did better last year fishing in 40 degree weather with rain this same time of year! But we still caught some fish. I keep reading about people talking about fishing the bushes..but we tried that and didn't do much of anything. The success we did have was running grassy points with lipless cranks. Between our group of 9, we boated a 5-00, a 4-08, and a 4-03..those were the best 3 fish..I got the 4-03. The 5-00 and 4-03 came on traps..the 4-08 came on a buzzbait actually.

Water temps were anywhere from 50-55 most places we went..so still pretty chilly at least for March. Part of the problem is that we tried to fish Palo Gaucho most of the day on that Thursday and didn't catch much at all because the water is so muddy in there right now. It's worse than the spillway!! Once we got out of there and went across to Negreet, we started catching fish..cleaner water over there. We had a group go south and catch them pretty well too.

Overall a decent trip..I just wish I could be there in 2 weeks when it REALLY gets good..
