    Generator Oil

I need to change the oil in mine before a hurricane hits and wife gets pissed. This is a portable one. Can you use synthetic in them or just regular oil? Just another project for me to do on the weekends.

Check the engines manual,, I use synthetic in a standby generator. I was told once you go to synthetic you should stay with the synthetic oil. If you change the oil on time when you use it you really should not need the synthetic. I feel better with synthetic for the long runs and heat/

Jermey, Read the manual. Not all take the same oil, some are 30w, 40w,10w40, etc.I would not put syn oil for the simple reason 1) dont really need it. 2) if you get in a bind during a storm and cant find a store that has it you're gonna be forced to change it out or mix it ( which neither is not good ) I have 2 generators and one of them is 7yrs old and still running. I bought a new one thinking the old one would crap out but its still going strong. I run Casterol 40w in both of mine.

I printed the manual and its somewhere around here. I think it said 30W........was just wondering if i could or not. I'm gonna email the mfgr. and see what they say. Like earlier post said with the heat and long runs........thanks. I'll post the response on what the mfgr. says.

I changed the oil in mine last during the hurricane with Royal Purple and got an extra 3hrs of run time on a tank of gas, really surprised me. Use 30 wt. may be hard to find. I couldnt find any 30 wt. oil anywhere after the hurricane, so I used 10w 30.

I run Mobil 1 10-30w in my Honda. Haven't had a send of trouble with it yet and it gets used quite a bit with our race trailer.
