2004 Evinrude HO - Non-ETC Question

I have been hearing that the 2003-2004 HO - Non-ETEC motors were having gear problems. Heard if they had the lighting gearcase, it would have to be replaced. Then some say it was only the 225, and some say it was only the 2003 motors.

I'm looking at a boat wiht a 2004HO, and just a little confused if I should go with this motor or pass on a boat I'm looking at.

I don't know of any problems with that gear case.

I have one. Had no problems for a year and a half.

I have had no seen or heard any problems with the case.
