    Re: Caney Lake (Ranger Tim)

I've only been there once, in the spring, a couple years ago. So I won't be ANY help at all.

This time of year, I'd look for grass or deep humps. That should narrow it down for ya.

Man it's a smaller lake around 5500 acres. It wont be to hard to figure it out. If I were you I would swing by browns and feel some peeps out. I do know in the spring the fish are steady moving to deep water so find some grass and fish it deep.

I would try some of the deeper points in the main lake and some of the creek channels.

Do NOT overlook the pads either. The biggest fish that I have ever caught came out of less that 3' in early July at Caney. White frog works good for me most of the time. The schooling fish should be showing up pretty good at times too. South end of the dam, and the mouth of Smith Creek leg are usually a good places to look for them schooling. The night fishing may be real good too.
