    From XD50 to XD100 - Pump old 50 out?

    To make a short story:

Picked up new 05 90hp etec. Dealer says they only program them for XD100 but they filled the entire tank with XD50 (blue stuff not brown like 100). Noticed this after 30 mins of running motor.

Called service and they said to just pump out the 50 and put in 100. No problem, did this myself, took 3/4 gallon of XD100.

Now have 4 hours on motor, 3.5 with XD100.

Question - how long is going to take the XD100 to actually go through the lines I see on the engine? They are all still filled with XD50 (blue again, and I am accounting for the blue tinge on the lines)

The etec rep at the dealer (I guess he was there when I called) said it shouldn't be a problem. I am starting to wonder...

I would say you will see the blue for some time. You can not pump all the XD50 out. The XD100 will turn a blue color from the oil left in the pump and lines. I would say it may t ake a full gallon to get the blue all the way out. If you have 3.5 hours on it, under break in you have XD100 in your lines its just tanted blue. If you want to flush the system out faster just put it into the winterizing mode or take it to your dealer and have them run the prime oil function with the program. Its the least they can do for you since they put the wrong oil in to begin with.

It seems like after 3.5 hours you would be running on the xd100. 100 to 1 ratio verses 50 to 1 ratio. But you have come to right place for info. lots of experts willing to help.

You should have the XD-100 pumping through the veins by now. Like Johnrude says the tinge will last for awhile. By your 1st gallon should be gone. BTW It doesn't break in at 100 to 1 it actually breaks in at 25:1. CM

Yeah I forgot the breakin procedure. Hey CM is there anyway that the average guy can test his tach to what the outboard is actually turning? I am guessing that tachs can be off by a few hundred rpm's. Thanks in advance

You need to compare it to a calibrated shop tach. or put a palm pilot on it with the software.

My 75 was the same way, probably used half a gallon before the lines actually started turning brown.
