Have a 225 ProXS that gets used in saltwater a good bit. Removed the cowling the other day to see some corrosion (not bad) but also a considerable buildup of salt crystals in some locations.
I'd like to spray that salt off with some freshwater then add a little protective silicon spray, but I don't know about shooting it with the hose.
Would I be better off just taking it off with a wire brush?

There is a product called ( Corrosion X ) I highly reccomend it. comes in a spray can and works real goodWe use to use it when I fished saltwater tournaments with good results.
You can clean with fresh water and perhaps a mild detergent. Use caution to avoid the intake, electrical connections, etc.
The engine needs to dry COMPLETELY..... preferably in direct sunlight for SEVERAL HOURS (a full day is even better).
Mercury Corrosion Guard is also a good product to use.... it comes in an aerosol can as well. Apply after engine is COMPLETELY dry.
