My wife and I had an interesting conversation......

about when we would evac. Not day wise, but storm strength. She said she's not scared because she stayed next door at her parents house for Hurricane Danny in 1985. I looked it up and Danny was a Cat 1 at 80 mph. I told her I have complete faith in our house until the winds get over a hundred, then I'm hauling ass and taking at LEAST one of the boys with me.

I remember when I was growing up, we never left during a hurricane, no matter how bad and we lived about 30 miles north of Pensacola. I guess times change.

Alan, we talked about that also. I think i would stay until its a strong 4 or 5. Of course the house is older and solid sheeted inside and out and roof with centermatch. No problems with Betsy (I was a kid) and Andrew and some of the weak ones. Lost some of the shingles with Katrina. I am suspect in some of the new construction practices and materials.

I guess it has alot to do with where you're located. We evac'ed to Baton Rouge for Andrew, Which ended up being the center. But because we were in a neighbor hood with lots of houses, it wasn't bad. But we live in the country, and these rice fields don't block SHIT!!!

Me personally, I wouldn't leave until a cat 4or5. With the wife's health I'm thinking a strong 2 will likely make me leave. She can't be away from electricity that long. We've both have nephews in Ruston and she has an uncle in Hattiesburgh so that's our destinations or we could go to Houston to her sister, but that's my last choice.

My dad's 88 his answer to me today was, I have never left and I won't leave, I guess we'll see.

It just came on our local chicken chit news that they are calling for manditory evac. here starting at 4pm tommorrow. The reason is so they can evac New Orleans on Sunday. So now my wife is starting to worry if they should leave or not.I told her to wait until tommorrow afternoon and see what it is doing. I think I am gonna run to work tommorrow and get one of the drs to give me some drugs to keep her mellow like normal

Yea Jason, HD and Lowes had lines yesterday with people buying generators. If they run out you might try some of the smaller ace hardware stores in surrounding towns. they may have a few. be sure to stock up on gas or fill the boat to have the gas to run it. I went with a natural gas backup years ago and its great. No filling, no going outside in the rain. Just wait about 30 seconds after the electricity goes out and the power comes back on.......as long as the natural gas supply is not cut off. If they cut off natural gas this is probably not a place I want to be.

I wanted to do that, but the gas line stops about 3 miles north of my house.

Well, I filled up the boat and bought me a Yamaha generator. Man, I wonder does Hydro Tec make a Phase 2 kit for Yammie generator?
