I have a 2002 225 Optimax that sometimes makes a loud ticking noise. It does not do it all the time and it does not do it at idle. I only seem to notice it on plane in the mid range. When it does it it is very easy to hear. Is this something to be concerned about? I have 255 hours on engine. Thanks
Probably going to need a little more information. I WILL NOT say to "ignore it".... without good reason.
A good place to start looking would be to inspect the belt and tensioner. Make sure the belt is in good condition, with no loose "threads" or abnormalities that might cause excessive vibration. Make sure the tensioner pulley, and compressor pulley are in good condition (and that the compressor pulley itself is not "loose or wobbling").
While you're there... you can spin the compressor by hand (with the belt off), to see if there feels to be any bearing issues in the air compressor.
